William J. Smith

Priest Diocese of Alexandria, Ontario (now Alexandria-Cornwall).  Consecrated Bishop of Pembroke, Ontario in July 1945.  Retired 1971.

June 1927 ordained in Greenfield, Ontario (Diocese of Alexandria)

Secretary to Bishop Couture and assisting at St. Finnan’s Cathedral, Alexandria.

1940: Rector St. Finnan’s Cathedral, Alexandria.

1944: assigned to St. Columban’s, Cornwall to restore the church after the September ’44 earthquake.

25 July 1945: consecrated as Bishop of Pembroke, Ontario (at St. Finnan’s Cathedral, Alexandria)

February 1971: retired.

1951-1977:  Bishop W. J, Smith State Chaplain for the Ontario Knights of Columbus
