(CP) A 49-year-old Roman Catholic priest is to appear in provincial court Monday on a total of 16 six counts of indecent assault and gross indecency. Rev. Gilles Deslauriers, whose address is given as a Catholic religious retreat at Lac Nominingue, near Mont Laurier, Que., turned himself in Friday after police announced a warrant had been issued for his arrest. Deslauriers is charged with eight counts of indecent assault and eight counts of gross indecency relating to a six-year period ending in 1984. The charges follow a six-week investigation and involved young men aged 17 to 21 at that time when Deslauriers was a priest at the Nativity Parish Roman Catholic Church in Cornwall. He is the second Eastern Ontario priest to face similar charges in the last month. Rev. Dale Crampton, 50, of Nepean, Ont. - just outside Ottawa -appeared in court June 20 charged with nine counts of indecent assault involving five boys during a four-year period ending in 1980. He has been remanded for trial Aug. 14. Cornwall Bishop Eugene LaRocque, head of the Alexandria- Cornwall diocese, was not available for comment Friday and has previously refused all comment on Deslauriers. End of document.
